AlphaTouch Intercom Review (with Pricing and Alternatives)

AlphaCommunications sells a range of communication, access control and emergency signaling devices for a range of industries, including residential and commercial buildings. In this review, we will take a look at their AlphaTouch door intercom system.

Overview

AlphaTouch carries an apartment video intercom system for residential buildings. manufactured by Akuvox. The system uses AlphaTouch’s own operating system to allow a two-way video call, where both the resident and the visitor can see one another. Using the AlphaTouch app or an in-unit video monitor, residents can unlock the front door and control access to their building.

Prices

A standard monthly plan with AlphaTouch is offered at $2.50 per apartment. To get a quote for hardware and installation you must contact them directly.

AlphaTouch App Reviews

Residents receive and respond to visitors' calls using the AlphaTouch app on their phone, however many users report that the app does not function well.

On the Apple App Store, AlphaTouch has a rating of 3.3/5 stars. Many reviewers are unhappy with the app's lack of functionality, without much improvement since it was first launched. Users express problems with calls being dropped or not going through at all and problems with the sound quality.

On Google Play Store, AlphaTouch has a rating of 2.4/5 stars. Users here said that they cannot get the app to open, mentioning an endless buffer at their login screen. Reviewers who are able to use the app have said that it hardly ever works, and though AlphaTouch claims to integrate with a building's existing apartment buzzer system, reviews mention that they’ve seen no improvement since switching to AlphaTouch.

We suggest you read the reviews yourself to determine if AlphaTouch would be the right apartment intercom for your building.

Advantages

  • Durable hardware with 7” touchscreen

  • Residents are able to control access to the front entrance through their smartphone

  • Optional integrations.

Disadvantages

  • A two way video intercom feature allows the visitor to see if the resident is not home, creating a lack of security.

  • Residents only receive calls through the App

  • It has very low ratings in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

AlphaTouch Vs. Whoo Intercom

AlphaTouch’s hardware is manufactured by Akuvox; the same manufacturer of Whoo Intercom. Akuvox’s hardware is durable, easy to install, and the 7” screen, high video resolution and 3M pixel front facing camera make it a leading competitor for video intercom systems.

AlphaTouch uses their own operating system to allow residents to connect their smartphones to the front entrance intercom via the AlphaTouch app. Reviews indicate that the app is highly unreliable and does not work as expected. While Whoo was designed to be intuitive and easy to use, the AlphaTouch interface is not as user friendly.

With Whoo Intercom, residents have the added benefit of a one-way video, so that visitors can not see where the resident is answering the call from. Since Whoo allows residents to answer their front door from anywhere this feature helps keep the resident and the building safe.
